Harpocrates is depicted as a lotus beneath the body of the child Horus under his mother the goddess Isis and Vedjat the crown of Upper and Lower Egypt with the god Bes representing power protection and good health. Surrounded by early hieroglyphs it becomes the creative and restorative power of Horus derived from the watchful eye of Isis. In later periods the slaying of young Horus by Seth became a symbol of faith. Interpreted as a retaliation against evil in the symbolism of Harpocrates in the 2nd to 3rd centuries AD it was adapted in Roman symbolism blending protective power with Greek Ptolemaic faith.
