The magnificent Osireion a stone temple is associated with the god Osiris. Inside bas-reliefs depict the resurrection and scenes of Osiris performing rituals before him. This structure symbolizes rebirth and the eternal cycle of life. The interior architecture featuring massive granite columns supporting a stone roof bears a resemblance to Old Kingdom Egyptian architecture. A distinctive feature is the central hall surrounded by a water channel similar to a valley temple enclosed by an underground moat connected to the groundwater level.

The Osireion was discovered accidentally in the early 20th century. Situated below the level of typical temples it is constructed of massive granite sandstone and limestone far larger than those commonly used during its time. First discovered in 1899 by a team led by Petrie and Murray limited excavation at the time halted before it was buried beneath the desert. Full-scale excavation and site opening resumed around 1912-1914 by Egyptologist Edard Navill.
